Backup Bootable USB To Image

Creation of bootable USB drives has become relatively easy nowadays with the help of tools like Rufus and USB Image Tool. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could create a backup image of your bootable USB drive and whenever you need it, just restore the backup image using the method described in Pfsense USB Install Guide (Rufus). Below we will detail the steps needed to backup your USB Drive to an image. In this example, we have an Acronis True Image 2014 bootable USB Drive that we want to backup.

  1. Download the latest version of the USB Image Tool using the link above.
  2. Plug in the USB drive you would like to backup and fire up the USB Image Tool.
  3. Select your USB drive in the left pane (See Image).
  4. Click “Backup” and select a name and location in the dialog.

That is it. Once USB Image Tool is complete, you will have a nice backup image of your USB drive that can be easily restored with either Rufus or USB Image Tool.
