Encrypted Windows Backup (7z)

The idea for the concept below came to me years ago when I received a letter from an unnamed Bank I was doing business with at the time. This letter stated that my PII (Personally Identifiable Information) had been stolen. As it turns out, the Bank’s un-encrypted offsite backup tape was stolen en-route to a safety deposit box. WOW, this was a serious eye opener that forced me to re-evaluate how our clients offsite backups were being handled. Needless to say, we had nearly a dozen Small Business Clients that were susceptible to the same exploit so we set out to find a solution. I think it is pertinent to point out that at the time, Server 2003 R2 was the primary operating system of choice and BitLocker was not yet available. In the script below we are going to create a backup with Windows Server Backup and then encrypt the backup with 7-Zip using pure Powershell. Please ensure you have 7-Zip installed on your machine.
